Mine Manager - Ahafo South, Newmont Ghana Gold Limited

Okyere Yaw Ntrama has 32 years of post-graduation experience in the mining industry, spanning gold, coal, diamond, and platinum. After graduating from The University of Science and Technology School of Mines in Ghana in 1990, he joined Ashanti Goldfields as a Technical Mining Assistant until 1993. That same year, he migrated to South Africa and gained employment with Goldfields of South Africa as a Mining Engineer, where he obtained the Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency for Metalliferrous Mines in 1996.

From 1997 to 1999, he was employed at JCI Tavistock Collieries, where he obtained the Mine Overseer and Mine Manager's Certificates for Coal Mines in 1997 and 1998, respectively, and was subsequently appointed Mine Overseer. He later joined Avgold in 1999 until 2000 as Mining Engineer for the Target Operation.

From 2001 to 2003, he worked for New Diamond Corporation as the Mine Manager of the Schmidtsdrift Alluvial diamond mine. In September 2003, he gained employment with Anglo Platinum and was appointed to various positions including Mining Manager for the Twickenham Project, Operations Manager at Mogalekwena Platinum Open Pit Mines, and Project Manager at the Brakfontein Merensky Underground Project, serving until December 2009.

In 2010, Okyere Yaw Ntrama returned to Ghana to explore opportunities in West Africa. In 2011, he was engaged as Project Manager for the Ajopa Pit Project at AngloGold Ashanti’s Iduapriem Mines. Subsequently, he served in expatriate roles as Mine Manager for the Kilo Mongbwalu Mine in the DRC and SESMOS SA in Mali—both AngloGold Ashanti operations.

He joined Newmont Mining Corporation in August 2014 as Mine Manager at Newmont Golden Ridge Limited – Akyem Mines, where he was accountable for leading and managing Mining Engineering, Maintenance, Geology, and Operations. From June 2016 to July 2017, he served as Interim General Manager. Under his leadership, the mine received four Ghana Club 100 awards: Best Company in Ghana, Best New Entrant, Fastest Growing Company, and Leader in Mining and Petroleum Sector— organized by the Ghana Investment Promotion Center.

Effective May 2020, he was appointed General Manager at Newmont Ghana Gold Limited Ahafo Mine, where he led the team in delivering superior operational performance. Since April 2022, Okyere Yaw Ntrama is currently serving as the Paramount Chief of the Essumeja Traditional Area, a Member of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs, a Member of the National House of Chiefs, and the Board Chairman of RABOTEC GROUP.
