Newmont Africa Joins Mining in Motion Summit as Bronze Plus Sponsor

Mining company Newmont Africa will participate as a Bronze Plus Sponsor at the inaugural Mining in Motion Summit, Ghana’s premier mining event, scheduled for June 2-4, 2025 in Accra. As one of the country’s largest mining companies, Newmont Africa will use the platform to discuss strategies for sustainably harnessing Ghana’s gold resources to support local content development and contribute to global market stability.

The company is expanding its operations in Ghana, with a focus on the Ahafo North Project, which represents an investment of between $950 million and $1.05 billion. This project will unlock 3.8 million ounces of gold reserves and an additional 1.4 million ounces of measured, indicated and inferred resources across seven mineralized zones. Once operational, Ahafo North will extend the lifespan of the Ahafo Mine by 13 years and increase Ghana’s annual gold output by 300,000 ounces between 2026 and 2030, significantly boosting GDP and national revenue.

Newmont Africa has placed strong emphasis on local participation, aiming to create jobs and develop skills. The Ahafo North Project is expected to generate approximately 1,800 jobs during peak construction, with 550 direct roles in the operational phase, and up to 53% of the workforce will come directly from local communities. Additionally, Newmont Africa launched the $4 million Asutifi Processing and Services Center in 2024 to support over 1,000 farmers in the Ahafo Region, helping them process chili pepper and ginger, reduce post-harvest losses and improve food security.

Mining in Motion provides the ideal platform for mining firms like Newmont Africa to strengthen their contribution to Ghana’s mining sector and economy through enhanced cooperation with local, regional and global stakeholders. The summit offers Newmont Africa a valuable opportunity to showcase its ongoing commitment to sustainable mining practices, local development and global market stability. Organized by the Ashanti Green Initiative under the leadership of Oheneba Kwaku Duah, Prince of the Ashanti Kingdom, the event is held in partnership with the World Bank and the World Gold Council.
